Enterprise and Entrepreneurship

“The world is changing, and the future of work is all about enterprise skills – our students are the way forward and our goal is to provide them with those skills.”
Damien Meunier, Head of Innovation and Entrepreneurship

At Haileybury, Enterprise and Entrepreneurship is one of the four pillars that guide our ethos. We cultivate an entrepreneurial mindset among our students that encourages them to view challenges as opportunities for innovation. By encouraging them to transform problems into into creative solutions, we empower our students to become global leaders and change-makers.

Our goal is to create students who are adept problem-solvers and risk-takers, who understand that failure is merely a ‘first attempt in learning’ (FAIL). They learn that persistence is necessary before achieving success. This spirit of adventure and innovation is instilled through our practical entrepreneurship programs spanning the Junior, Middle and Senior Schools.

“In Startup, I have enjoyed creating my idea and getting to see the idea come to life. Most of the time when you come up with an idea for these sorts of things you never actually get to create it or learn about how to create it. I am a hands-on kind of guy and so making the product is what I enjoyed the most. I never knew how much designing, testing and effort goes in to creating a product and the start of a business.”
Elijah (Year 8)
“I have really enjoyed working with my teammates to create our business and product. The Makers Market unit has taught me that entrepreneurship is more than just selling a product. It is about identifying a problem and creating a solution that can help. It may be something that does not always work at first, but you have to keep trying. I have also learnt that teamwork is vital in order for a project to run smoothly.”
Michelli (Year 8)
“Social Impact Ventures has allowed me to understand the growing issues we face in our tightly knit community. I have enjoyed working collectively as a team and sharing our message through various speeches and presentations conducted from homeroom to homeroom.”
Nicholas (Year 9)

“We are all familiar with the notion that our students today will eventually work in jobs that don’t yet exist. So, we want our young people to have the mindset and confidence that they can take on any situation and thrive.”

2024 StartUp showcase

Each year, Haileybury’s Year 8 students work on a business idea they have created from scratch as part of the School’s popular StartUp program. At the end of the year, the best business idea from each campus, chosen by students, competes in the StartUp Pitch Showcase. We reveal this year's winners of the highly anticipated StartUp Showcase.
