Haileybury has been recognised as one of the best schools to work for in Australia.
The School has been named a Five Star Employer of Choice in The Educator’s inaugural report that showcases Australian schools with the best initiatives in place to support staff.
From leadership and communication to access to technology, The Educator report showcases the schools that are leading the way in employee recruitment and retention.
Haileybury has been recognised for its exceptional staff conditions and support, its professional development pathways, and levels of staff satisfaction. Our most recent employee engagement score achieved an impressive 8.95 out of 10.
Our wellbeing programs that were enhanced during 2020 due to the impacts of the pandemic have also been recognised as contributing to Haileybury’s Five Star Employer of Choice rating.
During 2020, the School launched a fortnightly online wellness page for all staff that included resources on nutrition, fitness and meditation. Our School Psychologists contributed articles to help staff manage some of the challenges posed by COVID-19 restrictions.
“Sports Coaches ran online fitness sessions and created YouTube clips for staff to maintain exercise habits,” CEO | Principal Mr Derek Scott says.
“No stone was left unturned in ensuring that staff were fully supported, as they always have been.”
Haileybury has more than 500 full time equivalent (FTE) academic staff and 225 FTE non-teaching staff across four campuses. They benefit from subsidised tertiary study and programs that educate and inform on important issues including bullying/harassment, change management, reconciliation and general management.
All staff members can take part in weekly briefings to share information and further strengthen connections and networks, and they enjoy a benefits program, wellness and wellbeing sessions. Access is also available to qualified professionals such as psychologists and management trainer coaches and to financial advice.
Haileybury has long-championed diversity among staff members and encourages flexible working arrangements to support work-life balance. This was enhanced during 2020, with a greater focus placed on enabling staff to work flexible hours and days to match their lifestyle needs.
Derek says the commitment and dedication of Haileybury staff was clearly apparent last year during the pandemic. Corporate and Academic Staff continued to work hard to ensure students felt supported and empowered as they continued their learning outside the formal classroom setting.
“Our 2020 VCE results were the second best in our history – testament to the success of our transition to digital learning,” Derek says.
The Five Star Employer of Choice award adds to a number of accolades won by Haileybury during the past year, including Primary School of the Year Non-Government and Primary School Principal of the Year Non-Government from the respected Australian Education Awards.
