Term 4 summer uniform
The start of Term 4 signifies the change in season and summer uniform.
The summer uniform is:
- Shorts
- Open neck shirt
- Summer dress (worn to the knees)
- Grey socks worn with the shorts
- White socks worn with the dress
- Blazer (Middle School/Senior School)
- Black leather shoes
- Junior School white hat with dress
- School cap or bucket hat to be worn outdoors at School
- Junior School white sunhat with dress
- Junior School cap with shorts.
As a SunSmart school, it is strongly recommended that approved Haileybury headwear be worn during all outdoor activities. The School cap or bucket hat (Junior School) is to be worn outdoors at School and is compulsory during Terms 1 and 4.
The wearing of a hat is mandatory for Junior School students, when travelling to and from School.
Students in Junior School wear the School magenta cap, magenta beret, or white sunhat. See more here.
Early Learning Centre
Looking forward, looking back
A sense of belonging is fostered by the connections that children make to each other, their educators and the environment around them. Children within the ELC are provided with multiple opportunities to connect to the wider Haileybury community that they belong to. The end of Term 3 saw numerous opportunities for connections and celebrations including Father’s and Special Friends Day, Pre-Prep’s visit to Middle School for our annual ‘Arcade Afternoon’ as part of the Year 6 Thrive program, and our Pre-Prep and Prep parent coffee morning focusing on transition.
As we look towards Term 4, children in both Reception and Pre-Prep will begin to engage in opportunities that support the broadening of friendships and belonging within the wider Haileybury community. Children from all three of our Reception classes will begin to engage and interact as they connect through play opportunities in the playground. Meanwhile, Pre-Prep will see increased opportunities to engage with their Year 3 Buddies, as well as additional opportunities to share knowledge with our Year 1 students through a joint worm-farm project to strengthen their connections throughout the wider School.
Junior School
SEA
In Term 4, the Year 4 students will be participating in the SEA (Sex Education Australia) program, which is a key component of the Year 4 child health and safety curriculum. This program consists of three carefully structured sessions spread over a three-week period, designed to educate students on important topics related to their physical development. The lessons will cover a range of subjects, including understanding bodies and body parts, the development of babies, and the changes that occur during puberty.
To ensure parents are fully informed about the program’s content and approach, a Year 4 parent information session will be held via Zoom on Wednesday 30 October, at 7.00 pm. During this session, SEA will provide a detailed explanation of the program, outline what the students will be learning, and answer any questions parents may have. This session aims to foster a supportive partnership between the school and families, ensuring that both students and parents feel prepared and confident as they navigate these important topics together.
Chesterfield Farm Excursion
The Preps are off to Chesterfield farm!
Our Preps will learn about life on the farm on this exciting and interactive excursion. They will see many different animals, learn how milk is produced during a cow milking demonstration, and watch a live sheepdog show.
Middle School
SSK Japanese calligraphy
In Week 3, Newlands was lucky to have the Shodo Super Kids (SSK) calligraphy group visit us from Osaka, Japan.
Newlands has had a long association with the group and once again our students were very fortunate to be able to learn key fundamentals of the art of calligraphy from the visiting students, while practicing some of their Japanese at the same time.
The group conducted workshops with Haileybury students studying Japanese from Years 7 to 9 and were hosted by families from both Newlands and Pre-Senior. Thank you again to the families that opened their homes to host our visitors, and we look forward to welcoming the SSK group again in 2025.
Year 7 Science Excursion Melbourne Zoo
In Term 4, our Year 7 students study Ecology, for which we have organised an exciting excursion to Melbourne Zoo.
As part of the Fighting Extinction Schools program at Zoos Victoria, all Year 7 students will learn valuable observation and classification skills to organise animals into groups based on shared characteristics.
Students will be challenged to classify animals, determine what adaptations they have made to help them survive, and what threats they are facing in the wild.
By understanding what animals require to thrive in the wild, students will learn how they can adapt their behaviour to ensure species survival.
