Edrington

Term 3 has been an exciting and successful one for Edrington. Our students have truly made learning a priority, with a strong focus on personal and academic growth. We have also enjoyed celebrating some wonderful events that brought our community together. Our youngest students marked a milestone with their 100 Days of School celebration, while Book Week was a book-rich experience across the campus. Father’s Day events in ELC, Junior School and Middle School created special memories for families and were enjoyed by all, while the Middle School House Performing Arts Gala showcased the incredible talent and teamwork of our students.

We were also thrilled to celebrate the national success of several of our students in dance, aerobics, softball, cross-country, snowboarding and badminton. It has been a rewarding term for everyone.

Haileybury Aerobics

Term 4 commences on Monday 7 October and we look forward to a wonderful final term of the year.

Early Learning Centre

Science in the ELC

Science is an extension of the children’s everyday world, as it encourages and teaches children how to discover and wonder about everything in the world around them. Science education plays an important role in helping children develop communication, critical thinking, problem solving and logical thinking skills. These skills are important for all aspects of children’s learning as they will use them throughout their school and working lives. That means a strong science foundation during early childhood could continue to benefit students for decades to come.

Children are only just beginning their learning journey, and science holds the answer to thousands of questions they are burning to ask. Throughout Term 3, experiments and activities have provided the ELC children with opportunities to hypothesis, observe, problem solve, think analytically and communicate their discoveries. It was fantastic to see the children’s learning was not isolated to the classroom, rather it involved connection with both the Haileybury and wider local community.

Junior School

Excursions

An important part of our curriculum is the experiences our students have throughout the year. Excursions provide a unique learning opportunity that includes hands-on activities as well as learning information about a topic. So far this year our students have visited:

  • Prep – Chesterville Farm
  • Year 1 - Gumbuya World
  • Year 2 – Science works
  • Year 3 – Melbourne Sports Museum (MCG)
  • Year 4 – Twisted Science

Middle School

We saw several events through August and our Middle School production stole the show! Frozen Jr. was an almighty success, with sold-out performances that involved many students working with lighting, behind the scenes, and of course the performers on stage.

This year for Father’s Day we wound back the clock and pulled out some of our favourite arcade games for everyone to enjoy. It was fantastic to see so many people in the John Twist Hall and we all enjoyed breakfast as we challenged the students to a game.

Term 3 assemblies have shone a light on those who have achieved success. We would also like to recognise some of our athletes who have achieved beyond the Haileybury Sports program.

  • Kai – 25th, U13 National Cross-Country Championship
  • Molly – U16 Victorian Softball Tea
  • Hamish – U15 Victorian Badminton Tea
  • Tori – 2nd & 7th, Australian Snowsports Interschools Championships

Furthermore, as we head to the term break our boys and girls are doing what they can to support those in need via the Social Justice program. The BMS is taking part in Operation Christmas Child, while the GMS are making Backpacks 4 VIC Kids. These initiatives will go to help those who have had to relocate without any possessions or may not receive a gift at Christmas.
