A week in the life of Haileybury, Darwin

It is always very hard to capture all the activities that make up a Haileybury Rendall School education. One thing is for certain — there are more and more ways for students and families to find something of interest to connect with.

It was a proud moment when our Year 12 Class of 2024 had their Graduation Assembly recently. We had 56 students complete their Secondary School journeys on that day. Ten of those students were part of our Junior School and Eva Susanto and Caitlin Mogridge even joined the school when it was Kormilda back in 2015 as Year 3 students. There were 26 students (including eight boarders) who joined us in Year 7 and completed their entire Secondary School at HRS. Fourteen Indigenous students were amongst the graduates. The event was shared by many families and friends.

The annual Grandparents’ Day was also a hit at the other end of the School for ELC families and students. We enjoyed the end of year presentation nights for the Stars Foundation and the Clontarf Academies, who support Indigenous boys and girls across the year at HRS and who work closely with our staff and students.

We also managed to fit in the annual Parents and Staff Auction and Quiz Night which raised almost $15,000 to further support sports development at HRS into 2025 and to provide extra funds for coaches and professional development, as well as more new equipment for all sports and year levels.

The Music Department showcased around 50 students across two nights with a recital event for singers followed by an instrumental event the next night. There were many special moments across these two evenings and our music team deserve great credit for all they are doing to develop the talents and opportunities of our students.

Meanwhile, 21 students across three teams were preparing for the Tournament of Minds international finals which were held in Sydney last weekend. We had one Year 9 team and two Junior School teams qualify for his wonderful event. All teams had a great experience in Sydney after months of training and competing.

While many Middle and Senior School students were completing examinations in Week 5, the action continued with the Junior School House Swimming Carnival, and Wellbeing Week is coming up soon.
